The feeling of a little life growing inside your tummy is surreal. It is mind-blowing how it makes you feel ecstatic and yet also extremely afraid. Having children changes your priorities, all of a sudden you care more for them than you do for yourself. Therefore, you do everything you can to protect them.
Why Did I Take Critical Illness Cover?
I bought Critical Illness Cover for them, my children. Having experienced cancer first hand through caring for a close family member, I am aware of the huge sacrifices that a serious illness suppose for the sufferer and the family.
Cancer is a terrible monster, but the treatment is what really changes your life. Having to go to the hospital for countless hours to receive chemo, radio or both. The side-effects of the treatment: sickness, not being able to enjoy food, losing an unimaginable amount of weight, temporarily losing your memory and not being able to speak.
What Is Critical Illness Cover?
Critical Illness Cover is a type of life insurance, which pays out when you’re diagnosed with an illness covered by the policy.
The downside of Critical Illness Cover is that no policy covers for all the different types of critical illnesses. It is for this reason that I consulted an FCA adviser. They run you through your expenses, what you can afford, what you need and advice you of what’s best for you. I might end up being diagnosed with a rare illness which is not covered by my policy, but at least I know I am covered for the most common types of critical illnesses, like cancer.
Having Critical Illness Cover gives me peace of mind. I took a policy out so if I develop one of the serious illnesses covered by my policy, I know I will be able to pay off my mortgage, provide for my family and help them to take care of me.
