Holidays, something we long for through the year and yet, when it comes to it, travelling with children can seem dreadful. It is for this reason that we’ve completed 6 tips which will make travelling with children trouble-free.
Check your passports
It might seem like common sense, but it is so easy to end up in the airport with an expired passport when children’s passports only last for 5 years. Don’t forget to check the passports before going on holidays, the cost of a last-minute passport is steep.
Double-check your children’s suitcase/rucksack bag
Always double-check your children’s packing. They might be old enough to pack by themselves, but you don’t want to end up having to get fined for heavy luggage and/or having to buy a new wardrobe because they didn’t realise you needed thick jumpers on a skiing trip, or because they decided to pack less clothes to leave room for extra toys.
Keep them comfy
Travelling with uncomfortable clothes is infuriating for any adult. Why should children be different? To avoid dealing with unhappy children as a result of uncomfortable clothing, dress them in multiple soft layers, so you can dress them and undress them depending on the change of temperatures. A pillow and their favourite snuggly toy will help them to relax and hopefully fall asleep.
Pack plenty of snacks but avoid sweets at all costs
You don’t want hungry children while travelling, but you also don’t want to travel with children in the middle of a sugar rush. Pack plenty of savoury snacks (e.g breadsticks, cheese, fruit) to keep your children feed and happy.
Get creative
Remember, travelling is an adventure for children. Keep them entertained by playing the always successful ‘I spy with my little eye’ game or get them to count how many clouds they can see in the sky.
You can also keep them easily entertained during your holidays by suggesting them to keep a travel journal. Buy a robust camera so they can take their own pictures and stick them on the journal. Encourage them to get funny leaves, some sand or anything to make the journal pretty, and make plenty of memories for the future while keeping them entertained on your travels.
Use public transport
Trains and buses are fascinating for most toddlers. Use public transport to take them in a daily adventure. You’ll save money on transport while keeping them excited through the holidays.
